It's getting colder and you may want to print these drawings on hoodies as well. I will continue to add new designs to the Free vectors section of this blog, as to satisfy a larger group of adrenaline junkies.

Downhill Mountainbike T-shirt Vector Design

My suggestion for printing your mountain biking T shirt
Here's one for the cotton lovers. I've printed this downhill rider silhouette on micro mesh polyester jerseys for some of my clients but now you can print it yourself on your favorite blank cotton T shirt.
I love my mountain bike (hard tail/cross country) and I normally wear my Downhill Addict jersey when I go biking up the mountains. I also wear it in the city for its light colors, making me more visible for drivers. Some may find it silly to see me riding a regular mountain bike and wearing this jersey but the thing is I really am a downhill lover. I get most joy and adrenaline while rolling super fast in the forest - downhill of course.
All my other mountain related sports that I occasionally perform seem less dangerous than downhill riding. I must confess I get awfully scared when I loose control of my bike - it feels extreme and the prospect of hitting a tree or falling on the trail at 45 km/h is horrible!
Wear your helmet and ride safely!

Free Climbing T-shirt Vector - Top Rope Forbidden
My suggestion for printing your climbing T shirt

Another DIY print design for your climbing wear. Download for free in PNG, GIF and SVG (vector) format.
Some say that if you climb but you haven't taken any falls, then you're not really doing it. It doesn't really matter whether you currently do more top roping than lead climbing but I guess you know that the goal is to lead. Don't think of falling as failure but rather as a way to improve your climbing performance and to train your mind for leading.
Taking the chance to fall is taking the chance to become a better climber.

Climbing in Bucegi Mountains - Dealing with Small Misfortunes
Every year I manage to go through the summer without great realizations in my climbing performance. This year I was as lame as usual. There are plenty of reasons not to climb during summer and I always cling on each and every one of them - it's too hot, it's raining, the rock walls aren't dry yet (if it rained beforehand), the seaside is tempting, trekking is fun, it just doesn't fit as a relaxing activity for holidays, mountain biking cannot be postponed, etc.As soon as the fall comes, however, I seem to turn my thoughts towards rock climbing again. I come to find that it's my favorite discipline amongst other outdoor activities that I like to perform. It's silly but it's true!
Every aspect of autumn encourages the climber to hit the rock faces - cooler temps and yet warm enough to be pleasant, better friction for both sole of climbing shoes and hands, great colors of the changing landscape, new crags to climb on, especially those which are facing South, a larger group of people in every tour (they're all back from their holidays and are eager to get together) and so on.
My desire for adventure is even higher in this season and this is also fueled by the ideas that spark within our group as we climb indoor and chat in the afternoon of every week day. We, climbers from Brasov, gather more often and in great numbers, now in the climbing gym, than we did all summer at the crags. It's pretty convenient for us - we're all so sporty and yet pathetically lazy.
Bucegi mountains are a great terrain for extreme adventures and I love to go there for both climbing and hard trekking or scrambling. My trip on Saturday had a little bit of everything.
I headed with Castoru for a seldom visited conglomerate climbing wall in order to climb a seven pitches route. There are several routes across the wall and there is also room for a few other lines. Castoru is already thinking to drag me here once more in the future so I can help him to bolt what is to become a fashionable route. :-)
As usual, we carried extra gear for protection (nuts, cams and pitons) and used two half ropes for the climb. I always advise adventure climbers to be equipped likewise when going multi pitch climbing.
I'm not sure whether it was bad fortune or luck but a small event deterred us from finishing the route - we accidentally dropped a climbing shoe... I mentioned luck coz once at the top of the route, a new saga is looming for the glorious climbers, that is descending safely - there is no path and the terrain is awfully treacherous. And now, with short daylight, it meant we should be as fast as possible. So, as we couldn't afford to loose time with one of us climbing either bare foot or with mountain boots, we decided to rappel and to look for the shoe at the base of the wall, between the fir trees.
We did so and found the shoe just a few meters away from the wall; its rolling was stopped by a fallen tree.
Even though our climbing tour was abruptly stopped by this incident, I am still satisfied for learning the way up to this wild and solitary wall. I like to think that small misfortunes, seemingly annoying, are the price one has to pay in order to escape greater calamities. Perhaps if we hadn't dropped that shoe we would have had trouble on the lengthy descent (like some friends of ours had this summer).
Photos taken with my phone camera.
By the way - can you recommend me a sturdy camera phone that takes high quality pictures? Carrying a digital camera is too much for me, that's why I prefer a phone which I can keep in my chest pocket and take out easily when needed.
Take care and be safe!

Free Bouldering T-shirt Print Design in Vector Format - Highball Climbing
My suggestion for printing your bouldering T shirt
Here it is - a bouldering T shirt design that will speak for you when you're out highballing. You can choose whether you print this drawing on hooded sweatshirts, long sleeve T shirts or whatever else you thing is suitable for you. You can also edit the design and modify it according to your imagination. I've noticed that many climbers and mountaineers are very computer literate so if you can add a personal touch to your Highball T shirt then it's fine with me.
Use either one of the classic professional computer graphics software (Corel Draw, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Visio, etc.) or make use of the free open source software you can find on the web (Draw Plus, Inksape, etc.).
This particular drawing inspired me for the name of this climbing and bouldering blog. Here's what the design is all about:
- a highball - a tall boulder suitable for climbing; falling from the top is risky though...
- a boulderer climbing
- a spotter - spots the climber as to direct him on the crash pad in case of a fall
My first advice is to look for a local shop within your town or city, one that prints mugs, T shirts or cards. Perhaps a gift shop or something similar.
Do it yourself using an iron and transfer paper. Look on the web for your closest supplier of transfer paper and kits for T shirt printing. Also, have a look at this link.
Use online services. They usually print the stuff and then ship it to clients for a charge. In my opinion Spread Shirt offers a good service in this regard. You don't want to miss out Cafe Press and Zazzle.
One nice aspect of these online services is that they allow you to sell the stuff you want to customize. You can basically have your merchandise online, on a powerful ready built platform, with lots of traffic, that takes care of all business aspects like payment, shipping and promotion. Think about how much you want to earn and add a commission on the price that the service sets as a minimum threshold.
Why am I giving this bouldering print design away?
The purpose of this blog is to promote outdoor activities and extreme sports in funny and exciting ways. One way of doing this is by sharing my personal adventures and by posting stories about high profile outdoor athletes (climbers, base jumpers, mountain bikers and so on).
Wearing a funny T shirt can sometimes get the message across better than anything else. So I figured it's better to make it as convenient as possible for everyone who wants to promote extreme sports, climbing and bouldering in this case.

Mammut Smart - Belaying Device for Rock Climbing
This is new for me. I haven't heard of it until now and I haven't seen it for real yet.
Mammut Smart is a belaying and lowering device intended for use in sport climbing and indoor climbing. Even though in the specifications it says it's not an auto blocking belay device it sure seems to behave like one, at least that's is my impression after watching some videos.
Gearx.com says this about Mammut Smart: "This device sure isn't stupid!". Straightforward and compelling! :-)
Other reviews of the product here and here.

Back to Switzerland for Bouldering
Georgel has just left this morning for another bouldering trip in Switzerland. This is his second trip for this year and perhaps he'll visit even more the Ticino canton by the end of the year.
It's impressive that such a big fan of bouldering can also enjoy the less convenient aspects of mountaineering and trad climbing; you don't see too many sport climbers willing to hike for hours just to reach mountain walls with bad protected routes. I hope he'll be back soon so we can climb more alpine routes and maybe even bolt some sport lines on the tallest tower from Piatra Mare mountain.
Cheers!
